Original spelling RAVN, pronounced ROUN. Changed the spelling to RAVEN circa 1921. Arrived at Ellis Island, New York, on July 2, 1928, on board the Frederik VIII. He sailed from Copenhagen, Denmark.

JENS RAVEN, THE LOST MASTER PAINTER OF LONG BEACH
In 1921 a gifted interior designer arrived in Long Beach. He was Jens Raven an immigrant who learned his outstanding craft in Denmark. Around 1926, his work was in such demand that it afforded him enough of an income to build a a modest home at 135 Rivo Alto Canal on Naples Island. It didn't remain modest for long. It soon sprouted a two story minaret, a colorfully tiled tower, and an impressive gothic arch built of stone with glass windows and a lush climbing rose.
The interior was a showcase of his techniques which ranged from beautiful pastoral murals in muted tones and free-hand floral decorations, to exotic stenciling over gold and silver leaf in the Italian Renaissance revival fashion. His techniques and methods were advanced for the era, and his work was in great demand. Many examples of his artistry still remain in Naples, Belmont Heights, Bluff Park, California Heights, and other areas of Long Beach where the finest in interior decoration was desired. In spite of his success he remained a humble man rarely signing any of his work, but his designs are unmistakable.
In the early 1930s the home was purchased by LesRojas, who raised his family there. Following his passing in 2003, the home was sold and razed for a more modern structure and Naples lost a treasure. But some of Raven's designs remain throughout the city to remind us of the colorful creator of the curiosity on Rivo Alto Canal.

Survived by wife, Louise; daughter, Gloria Coleman of Long Beach; son, Peter, Seattle, Washington; also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 sisters. He was a member of Painters Union No. 256 Long Beach. Service Wednesday 11 a.m. Green Hills Mortuary Chapel. Interment, Green Hills Memorial Park.
